World Alzheimer’s Day : Most common people see Alzheimer’s as a disease associated with common memory loss. But this is such a serious dementia or brain disorder that if efforts are not made to diagnose or manage it at the right time, it can affect the overall mental health of the person and even his ability to work.

World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated globally every year on 21 September with the aim of spreading awareness among the general public about the issues related to the causes, diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s. Not only this, the entire month of September is also celebrated as Alzheimer’s month. This year World Alzheimer Day 2023 is being celebrated with the theme “Never too early, never too late”.

World Alzheimer Day History and Importance: Generally, under normal circumstances, most people do not take weakness in memory very seriously. At the same time, when this problem starts increasing with increasing age, they consider it to be a common symptom of old age and ignore it. In such a situation, due to ignorance about the symptoms or lack of information about the disease, people delay in seeking medical advice, which affects the treatment of the victim and the management of the disease.

 Since in the last few years, like every type of disease, the cases of Alzheimer’s are also increasing, the spread of information related to this disease and the awareness among the general public about the disease has become more important.

It is noteworthy that in the year 1901, a German psychiatrist, Dr. Alois Alzheimer, discovered this disorder while treating a German woman. After which this disease was named Alzheimer’s after him. Understanding the seriousness of this disease, celebrating “World Alzheimer’s Day” was started by the Alzheimer’s Disease International Organization with the aim of increasing people’s awareness about Alzheimer’s. In fact, this organization was established in the year 1984 with the aim of providing guidance to Alzheimer’s patients in treatment and other necessary directions and supporting them in every possible way.

On September 21, 1994, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the organization, it was announced by the organization to celebrate World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21 every year with the aim of increasing awareness about Alzheimer’s. Since then, various awareness campaigns like seminars, symposiums and camps have been organized every year on this occasion. Apart from this, the month of September is now also celebrated as “Alzheimer’s Month” across the world. Under which various types of programs are conducted by various government and non-government organizations all over the world throughout the month.
