On August 9, the 78th anniversary of the American atomic bombing was celebrated in Nagasaki, Japan. On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped a second atomic bomb named ‘Fat-Man’ on the southern Japanese city of Nagasaki, three days after the first uranium bomb ‘Little Boy’ destroyed Hiroshima. Nagasaki Day is being celebrated across the world to promote peace and create awareness about the danger of nuclear weapons..

As World War II broke out, the United States, along with its allies, sought to end the conflict with Japan. The decision to use the atomic bombs was motivated by a desire to hasten Japan’s surrender and avoid a long, costly invasion. On July 16, 1945, about 20 days after the ‘Trinity Test’, the United States first used nuclear energy, it dropped the first atomic bomb, nicknamed ‘Little Boy’, on Hiroshima on August 6, with a total duration of approximately 20 years. 1,40,000 people died.

The bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki was code named ‘Fat Man’. More than 80,000 people died in this. As a result, Japan had to surrender unconditionally in World War II. At least 70,000 people died in the initial blast in Nagasaki, while about 70,000 more died later from radiation-related illnesses.

The survivors of the Nagasaki bombing, known as “hibakusha”, suffered permanent health problems, including cancer, birth defects, and other ailments due to radiation exposure. The city suffered extensive damage, causing economic and social challenges.

The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki sparked worldwide outrage and debate about the ethics of using such destructive weapons. Many questioned the ethics of targeting civilians and the long-lasting environmental and humanitarian consequences.
